The easily offended

It's hard to be part of society today. Not only because deteriorations in welfare and various social functions that fail, but also because you really have to think twice or more about every statement you make in order not to unknowingly offend someone.
It must also be taken into account that the statement cannot be perceived as the slightest racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, anti-Semitic, sexist or otherwise offensive to any individual, gender, group or religion and if you have something critical to say, be sure to not generalize.

We have become the easily offended people, some would perhaps prefer to call us the aware people, but in any case, benevolence and righteousness can easily go to excess and instead turn into absurdities.

If we don't distinguish between conscious, intentional insults and everyday unfortunate word choices, the conversational climate becomes unbearable. Having said that, I don't mean that the unintended violations should go unnoticed, but the sender should not be arbitrarily and automatically labeled as a supporter of any of the above -isms, as many unfortunately tend to do.

It would be a great failure for the free debate not to dare to express their opinions for fear of sporadic and accidental word choices in the heat of the discussion.

Because remember, things can always be made right with a sincere apology.

XOXO
