Hypocrisy

"This post is sponsored by Qatar Airlines"

Just kidding, but the subject in this post includes this particular country as well as other autocracies with no democracy or civil rights.

Right now the World Cup is going on in Qatar, and much has been about their oppression of women and LGBTQI people and the treatment of the migrant workers who built and made this World Cup possible and the many deaths that occurred during this work.

One can have many opinions about FIFA, and how bribery and corruption decide which country gets to host the World Cup, but that isn't something I intend to address here.

I much rather talk about how easily strongly expressed opinions turn into hypocrisy.

As long as the rest of the world do business with these countries, we have no legitimacy to have any opinions about their state government, it's just plain hypocrisy.

And as long as countries, that call themselves democracies, still treat certain groups of people differently than others they should just stay quiet....or rather STFU..!

But let's get back to the Football World Championships.....
What about the players, the media and all of us who are watching the games? Are we all big hypocrites?

Personally, I put no responsibility on the players who just want to practice their sport and of course participate in the biggest game there is.
As for the media, they are just doing their job, and we who watch just have to wrestle with our own conscience. Obviously it's possible to boycott the entire event by not watching it, but it can be very difficult for a die-hard football fan.

Don't get me wrong, I really detest these religiously fanatic, old-fashioned and non-progressive countries, but I'm not going to hypocritically condemn them while I'm watching the matches, snuggled up in the corner of the sofa.

As long as we buy and use products made in such countries, like China for example, it's difficult to criticize without hypocrisy.

But my opinion is that this expression has become something of a buzzword right now, especially in politics, and should not prevent ordinary people from criticizing and protesting against these countries anyway.

As long as you don't forget to also criticize your own government and the companies that willingly do business with these countries.......
