The political climate and...the climate..

My head gasket is coming off most of the time these days. It's most likely due to the final sprint of the election campaign here in Sweden. The parties fight to be the most populist and to outdoing each other in idiotic and ill-conceived proposals to change the difficult social situation.

I really don't understand how you can become so desperate to get power that you completely embarrass yourself, partly by assuming that the citizens are stupid in the whole head and partly by focusing solely on accusing the opposing side and completely lacking their own well-founded proposals for change, and instead throw out populist unfounded proposals where one can even sometimes question whether they are based on xenophobia.

Well, this topic wasn't my intention with this post, but I just have to blow off some steam...lol...I was going to air my thoughts about something else that has been bothering me for some time.

You have all realized that the weather has been absolutely crazy this summer. Right now there is a terrible drought in Europe, large rivers that are normally important transport routes are drying up, entire ecosystems are being destroyed and the lack of water is worrying people. Crops are destroyed and wildlife suffers. The extreme heat across almost all of Europe of upwards of 40-50 degrees Celsius has caused thousands of deaths.

Massive and difficult-to-extinguish forest fires threaten entire communities in several countries and on different continents, while catastrophic floods occur elsewhere due to enormous downpours. Yes, I am aware that there is a difference between weather and climate, but they are still connected. Climate change affects the weather we see now, I'm convinced of that.

It seems like the climate really backfires with a vengeance now, and then it is incredibly fascinating to see the climate deniers become increasingly desperate in their explanations and home-made theories, although it seems they think they are all climate experts. It's also enormously worrying of course.

If I go back to the Swedish parliamentary elections, even the politicians don't take the climate issue seriously, except for the Green Party, of course. It's a lot of talk but few actionable suggestions. One opposes e.g. offshore wind power with the explanation that it destroyes the view while spreading fake illustrations of wind turbines right on the shore when in reality they are planned to be placed far out to sea. It's just ridiculous and not to mention demeaning how they think that people is that stupid...

There are many important social issues, and even worldwide ones that needs attention and solutions, but none feel as important as the climate issue. You see how young people are frustrated by not being able to vote yet, they know that time is short. That hurts...

The climate is really a matter of destiny, so let the people decide, not the market forces…

XOXO
