Ominous development

Here's one more sporadic post with some thoughts about recent events...I'm sorry for the involuntarily long pauses, but life gets in the way sometimes, and right now basically all the time...

There's been a lot happening in the world lately, and not on the positive side. One would've thought that we had left the worst behind us and that 2021 would be a year of hope and optimism but then suddenly came a real and frightening proof that democracy is threatened by, among others, right-wing extremists and conspiracy groups, and that in a country where democracy is one of the cornerstones of society, the United States of America. Yes, I'm talking about the insurrection of the Capitolium, America's democratic stronghold, as everybody else is these days.

Aside from the climate change, this is the most frightening development in my eyes. I've seen this right-wing populism growing stronger for the last couple of years in many countries including my own, and with it a increasing atmosphere of racism, misogyni, anti-Semitism, etc.

The really scary part is that these alt-right and national-conservative groupings has established themselves in many governments worldwide. Partys led by power hungry men, not dressed in boots and leather jackets with swastikas anylonger, but instead tailored suits, nice ties and well-groomed haircuts....or for that matter, spoiled billionaires with narcissistic egos and a need for the masses appreciation no matter the repercussions...

Oh, wait...I must reclaim my opening statement in the paragraph above, It's really the masses who swallow the propaganda that scare me the most. It doesn't just consist of groups with sick conspiracy theories or their own white supremacy purposes, but ordinary people, unhappy with certain things as the most of us, but always looking for someone or something else to blame. And it's among these the propagandists find their followers, eager to feed them with lies and exaggerations that suit their purposes. And the masses gratefully and unchecked swallow it all...

Well, this turned out to be an uplifting post, didn't it...lol...but the world isn't a very uplifting place at the moment.

A way to distance yourself a little from all these worrysome things is to concentrate on your own problems, which in this context do not seem so worrying or important but which on the personal level always require attention and care.

Just focus on yourself, because you're the most important in your own world...

XOXO
