Climate anxiety

In my previous post I was talking about heat waves, how they affect those with chronic illnesses and how to avoid the bad and dangerous effects. This made me start thinking of the climate and global warming. Is this the weather we should get used to in the future?

I’m sure you’ve heard about Greta Thunberg, this
Swedish teenage girl who one Friday sat down in front of the Swedish parliament in a school strike for the climate which became the global movement #fridaysforfuture. Well, Greta is now a world celebrity and I couldn’t be more proud of her and what she has accomplished, but the fact that all focus would be on her person was not her intention and not at all what she wants. All she want us and the world leaders to do is to listen to the climate experts and science, she’s just a messenger.

But most people seem to fixate on the person, for both good and bad. World leaders and celebrities want their picture taken with her, they praise her but what are they doing about the problem she’s articulating?

The extreme weather is just one thing, the ocean’s is full of our garbage which threatens the animal life and the global warming makes the arctic ice melt.

A few days ago the city of Verhojansk in eastern Siberia broke a new heat record. In the city, known for its extremely cold winters, 38.0 degrees Celsius was measured, the highest temperature since measurements began in 1885. The next day, the heat wave continued and a temperature of 35.2 degrees was measured. In many places north of the Arctic Circle, temperatures that are 20-25 degrees higher than normal for the season are noted.

This makes at least me panic….

There’s so many things we have to change to rehabilitate our planet that it’s almost impossible to know where to start, but we have to start somewhere, and to educate ourselves and get knowledge about the climate changes is a great start. Then we must organize ourselves, young as old, and act to get our governments to act before it's too late....

Just do it...

XOXO
